Barnes & Noble Releases New Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight and Steals Jump on Amazon

-

Nook: First to Market With Lighted e-ink eReader

Barnes & Noble claims that an integrated light is the most requested feature people want in an e-ink e-reader. It took them two years before they could release their new Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight which is scheduled to ship in early May.

Amazon is rumored to be still working on the same feature for their next Kindle model so they have been left on th eback foot by this new release.

The photo shows B&N CEO, William Lynch, in dark light to demonstrate how the new Nook will let you read in the dark via its patent-pending lighting technology.

The Nook Simple Touch™ with GlowLight™ looks the same as the standard $99 Nook Simple Touch with only a grey edge to distinguish it from the older model.

B&N is pitching the new model as the solution to bedroom debates when one partner wants to read while the other sleeps.

The new Nook bridges the present dilemma readers have in choosing between e-ink or color LCD devices. Black-and-white e-ink devices work better for outdoor reading (mainly the choice of women according to B&N research) but they need a front light at night; color LCD devices do not need a front light so they can be read in bed with the light off.

The main selling points claimed for e-ink have been outdoors readability and energy efficiency. The main drawback e-ink has is its performance in low light conditions. If you had an e-ink device and wanted to read in low light conditions, you were forced to fork out another $20 – $60 for a clip-on light or a case with a built-in flip-out light.

For that reason, B&N is claiming the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight is two e-readers in one.

The new Nook is the first e-reader to combine the faster e-ink display with an infrared touchscreen, integrated anti-glare screen and an adjustable light for reading in the dark.

The new Nook is claimed to be more responsive with faster page turns than the Kindle.

The Nook GlowLight is not a back-light; it is a type of front-light technology where the light fades on and fades off. That stops it from being harsh on the eyes when turned on in the dark. You simply hold down the Nook button on the front to turn it on and shut it down.

Despite the additional key feature, the new model is slightly lighter (pun) than the older version. It has a market leading battery life, with B&N claiming you can read for over a month — with the GlowLight on. You get 2GB of built-in memory and an expandable memory slot that accepts microSD cards up to 32GB.

Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight holds more than 1,000 books and you can expand its memory to accommodate more if you really want to. Barnes & Noble’s free eReading software lets you access and read books from your personal Barnes & Noble digital library on devices including iPad™, iPhone®, iPod touch®, Android™ smartphones and tablets, PC and Mac®.

B&N has proven itself to be a credible competitor to Amazon and many people prefer the Nook over Kindle. This release has stolen a march on Amazon and B&N has a formidable store of books and language options that will keep the fight interesting and an ongoing benefit to e-reader owners for some time to come.

Your Questions About Kindle Email App

-

Michael asks…

does kindle have droid tv primetime app?

looking for a tablet that i can read email surf the web watch movies. Does kindle have the full android market with the droid tv primetive app?

Ken answers:

Your question has nothing to do with Wikipedia. I would go to a Kindle discussion site or help page, and try to find your answer there.

Linda asks…

Hi I am looking for a tablet I was debating between the nook and kindle fire..which one is the best, which one?

Would you choose? I am looking for reading mostly and also Internet with email app,I don’t care about videos that much but yea which one should I get thank you

Ken answers:

Check out the link for a comparison. Http://www.suntimes.com/technology/ihnatko/9349694-452/review-breaking-down-the-nook-tablet-vs-kindle-fire.html

John asks…

I would like to get a 10” Google android tablet.?

I have been looking on ebay and the china sites for a reasonably priced and the latest model tablet but I am told I cannot have a Kindle app. I want to be able to download library books as well as buy books especially. And the usual email, web browsing and a good camera etc. The Ipad is too expensive for me.
Can anyone help? Or can I buy apps for the tablet?

Ken answers:

The best android tablet I’ve found is the Asus Transformer. It has all the bells and whistles of any other tablet with one extra benefit. The Tab itself retails for $399, but for $149 extra you can get a docking station that turns it into a laptop with a keyboard, usb ports, and touchpad. Also the dock doubles the battery life of the Tab.

Also, there is definitely a Kindle app, as well as a Barnes and Noble app. So you can definitely do what you’re talking about doing.

Donna asks…

how to download readers to an android?

I received an android for christmas, and am trying to download the free kindle e reader app,,, so can purchase as book. I am unable to figure out where it is downloading or if it even is. It tells me to go to an email, but I never receive and email from them.

Ken answers:

This would help if you said what kind of android you have and where you downloaded the kindle reader from. You should just be able to download it and then go to were all yous apps are and find it or just download adobe reader and find books online download them put them on your android and read them that way (i like adobe reader more but i use it for magazines not books and magazines suck on kindle)

Sandy asks…

Should I get the Kindle Fire?

My I’m looking to get my son a gift and I was thinking about getting the kindle fire. Is it worth buying? Also what app store does it use (android?). My son already has an ipod touch and a regular kindle. He loves reading but he also loves playing all of the app games. He is 12 years old. he wants something he can go on the internet on, play games, read, email etc. He was original asking for an Ipad but that’s to expensive for me. I am looking for something around $200. The other thing I was thinking of getting was a net-book. Between a net-book and the kindle Fire, what would you choose? I’m open for any ideas. Thanks

Your Questions About Ebook Kindle Fire

-

Michael asks…

Can you put a Barnes and Noble ebook on a Kindle Fire?

Just wondering, because I know I’m getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas but I have like $50 in Barnes and Noble giftcards…Does anyone know?

Ken answers:

B&N reads pdf and epub, Kindle read azw, mobi and pdf.
So if your B&N book is pdf, you can put it into your Kindle.
If it’s epub, you can convert epub to mobi then put it into your Kindle.
Use Calibre to do these conversion job for free.

But there might be a demand of deleting the drm protection,
use this soft to remove pdf&epub drm protection:http://www.epubor.com/adobe-digital-editions-ade-drm-removal.html

Helen asks…

How can I transfer my ebook torrents to my kindle fire?

I have a kindle USB cable, and I have transferred the books into the “documents” folder and the “books” folder on my kindle, and I still cannot view them. Yes, they are pirated……is there some security thing with the new Kindle Fire?

Ken answers:

One answer suggests you check the file type to make sure they are compatible with the kindle..

Could also try using ‘sync’ in windows media player with the files like an mp3 player. I don’t have one.

Mandy asks…

Kindle Fire/eBook question?

I’ve been wanting an ereader for a while now, so I figured I’d just get a Kindle Fire. If you have a better suggestion for me, feel free to speak your mind lol. (Not my original question).

Anywho, I was wondering..
Can I only get the books for the Kindle on Amazon? Or can I go to other ebook stores from like Barnes and Noble? Or is it exclusively for only the Amazon ebook store? Thanks (:

Ken answers:

Hi, Kayla, Kindle Touch or Nook Simpletouch are e-Ink devices for reading and not video/web/apps while Kindle Fire or Nook Color are LCD screen devices for video/web/apps but not too much for reading. The only E-ink models I would take into consideration are Nook Simpletouch from Barnes & Noble and the new Kindle Touch (non-ad-supported) that both cost $139. Ad-supported Kindle models show full page ads to you (and everyone around you) every time they go to sleep mode and also show 2 line ads right there at your home screen – so annoying that Amazon even released a software that for $30 can convert ad-supported Kindle into non-ad-supported one. Non-touch screen Kindle models are such basic stone age devices (with page turn lag, buttons, and black blinks/flashes on each page turn) that I would not even speak about them.

Nook (unlike Kindle) supports eBooks in ePub format that is the universal format most used in the world. Current e-Ink Nook Simpletouch has the latest generation touch screen display, no page turn lag, it weights less, its battery lasts twice as long (two months on one charge), it has microSD slot and it doesn’t blink on each page turn – much better than current Kindle 3 or Kindle Keyboard. Nook Touch is still better designed than even the new Kindle Touch with battery lasting two months with ONE hour reading a day with Wi-Fi off thus it’s still twice as long as new Kindle’s two months with HALF and hour a day with Wi-Fi off. It looks like Kindle didn’t get any battery improvement in the new model, they only changed the test condition.

More, Kindle Touch still flashes black on each page turn while Nook Touch reduces the flashing by 80%. Nook Touch and Nook Color (unlike Kindle) have microSD card slot to take a card (class 6 or above) up to 32 GB. If you walk in with the Nook to Barnes & Noble store, you’re allowed to read ANY available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi.

Before you think of getting a Kindle Fire, here’s some limitations of it that you need to consider:
- Kindle Fire doesn’t have microSD slot that, for example, Nook Color has thus it is stuck with 6 GB usable internal storage unlike Nook Color that can get up to 32 GB card in. Kindles are made to make sure you’re tied up to Amazon’s storage on the web (for which you need Wi-Fi connection to get to) and you can only store content you get from Amazon there, not other files. Quoting Amazon on Kindle Fire: “Free cloud storage for all Amazon content”.
- The stats of how long the battery can last (Kindle Fire theory is 7.5 hours) are taken with Wi-Fi off. It will last only about 3 hours if you use it to access/stream content from their Cloud storage over Wi-Fi.
- Amazon can spy on your web activity through their new cloud-integrated web browser of Kindle Fire.
- lack of microSD slot means that if you decide to root your Kindle Fire, you’ll have to root the actual device thus there will be no coming back. On Nook Color, you can make it boot from a “rooted” microSD card and if you want to get back to the original Nook you can just take out the card and reboot.
- Kindle doesn’t support eBooks in ePub format that is the most used format in the world.
- Kindle app store contains only Amazon approved apps and it does not include (and will not include) Netflix app that iPad has and Nook Color is getting thus again you’re stuck with Amazon content only.
- Amazon confirmed that you cannot download/stream anything to Kindle Fire when traveling outside US.
- Amazon says it will review every app in its Appstore for Fire compatibility, as part of an automated process. Rejected apps will include those that rely on a gyroscope, camera, WAN module, Bluetooth, microphone, GPS, or micro SD. Apps are also forbidden from using Google’s Mobile Services (and in-app billing), which, if included, will have to be “gracefully” removed. In terms of actual content, Amazon has outlawed all apps that change the tablet’s UI in any way (including theme- or wallpaper-based tools), as well as any that demand root access.

According to recently appeared leaks on the Internet, Nook Color 2 will be released by Barnes & Noble on November 7, and this device sure leaves Kindle Fire in the dust.
Leaked specs include:
- dial-core 1.2 Ghz processor vs. 1.0 Ghz of Kindle Fire
- 1.0 GB of RAM vs. 512 MB of Kindle Fire
- 16 GB capacity for apps, videos, photos, ebooks vs. 8 GB of Kindle Fire
- microSD slot to expand capacity even further by another 32 GB vs. No expandable capacity of Kindle Fire
- 1024 x 800 IPS HD display vs. 1024 x 600 of Kindle Fire
- 14.1 oz weight vs. 14.6 oz of Kindle Fire
- Netflix and Hulu Plus for millions of movies streaming built-in vs. 13,000 movies in Amazon store that allows no Netflix and Hulu

Paul asks…

I want to buy a ebook reader preferably amazon kindle fire.how it gains access to internet connection?

plainly speaking i am poor in technical knowledge.since i have no computer but only a gprs enabled samsung feature phone without 3G and wi- fi.Then how can i download ebooks or browse web on the kindle fire?( i am in India)

Ken answers:

Right up front pardon me for my lack of knowledge about your country. Many libraries have internet access. So if you had the Kindle it should be able to connect wirelessly to the internet at any wifi enabled location that allows public access. Also more and more resturaunts offer wireless access to their customers.

Ken asks…

Can you transfer an ebook you already purchased onto a kindle fire?

I used to have a pandigital novel and I had the Steve Jobs biography on there. And I want finish it on my new kindle fire. Does anyone have any HELPFUL solutions???

Ken answers:

Yes you can; this will solve ALL of your ebook dilemmas.

Your Questions About Kindle 3g Wifi

-

Charles asks…

Do I have the Kindle 3G or the Kindle Wifi?

I recently bought a kindle through craigslist and the woman advertised it as the 3G version. But I can’t figure out how to turn on 3G… And I can’t check the back for a model number because it has a skull skin on it. How do I tell if its the 3G version or if its only the wifi version?

Ken answers:

Another way to check.

From the home page, click Menu and then choose settings.

Look for the paragraph labeled “Device Info”
The last line in that paragraph reads “Network Capability: “Wi-fi and 3G” if it is 3G enable. If only “Wi-Fi” it is not 3G.

Donna asks…

What is the difference between the Kindle 3 Wifi and the Kindle 3 Wifi/3G?

I would like to know because i just purchased a Kindle 3 Wifi since it’s $50 cheaper and i just ordered an expensive case that says its for a Kindle 3 Wifi/3G. Will my Kindle 3 Wifi fit in that case?

Ken answers:

Yes, the case will fit any of the 6-inch Kindle 3′s: WiFi or 3G+WiFi; regular or Special Offers. A Kindle DX would require a different case.

Kindle WiFi or WiFi+3G: Choose WiFi+3G if you wish to download ebooks or browse the web when away from a WiFi hotspot. An ereader with 3G support will be able to connect like a cell phone. Unlike a cell phone, however, there is no monthly fee for Kindle’s 3G service. Note, though, that the web browser on Kindle isn’t so great. Also, once an ebook is downloaded, neither WiFi nor 3G is needed to read it.

John asks…

Amazon Kindle 3G + WiFi or Barnes and Noble Nook or Nook Color?

I read a lot and think I would like an e-reader but don’t know which one.
The kindle 3g + wifi or nook or nook color.
Amazon or Barnes and Noble?
If you have one of these what is your review on it, likes/dislikes
Thanks

Ken answers:

I have a Kindle wifi+3G and love it. In my opinion it is THE e-reader. Nook is nice, ok, but, using an italian expression, it’s neither meat nor fish. A friend of mine has it and he agrees with this too. It’s too heavy, it’s screen is more tiring for you eyes and the battery life is shorter than the kindle’s. You can have colors…but if you want something just for reading it’s useless, at least in my opinion.

Also, the nook sales pitch for their screen is that it has a super-ultra-mega-hyper anti-glare surface. It’s probably true but still the kindle is on another planet.

For the purchasing procedure: I never tested the B&N one. Amazon’s is really simple and quick. Also downloading newspapers is really easy, you can just leave you kindle in stand-by overnight (no problem for the batteries), and as you wake up you have it ready on your reader. Only one big defect with books purchasing: if you love reading, having a kindle in you hands will lead you to break your budget faster than expected :)

George asks…

What is the difference between the kindle 3G and kindle wifi?

Where is the cheapest place to get one?

Ken answers:

Choose 3G if you wish to download ebooks or browse the web when away from a WiFi hotspot.

Amazon is the best place to buy the Kindle. The prices are no less anywhere else.

Nancy asks…

Does a Kindle 3G +WiFi tell whether it has ads (special offers) on the box?

I’m trying to buy a new one from someone who had it given to them but never used it. But before I drive 30 miles to check it out, I’d rather know if the box has this information. So does the box state whether the kindle has special offers, or do you have to power it up first? I don’t want the ads.

Ben answers:

Hi, Rebekah, I’m not sure if “ads-supported” posted on the box but did you know that Nook Simple Touch eReader’s new price is $99 without ads? It has twice the battery life of Kindle ($139 without ads), faster page turns than Kindle, 80% less flashing on page turns than Kindle, and microSD card slot to expand capacity that neither Kindle has. With Nook you can checkout eBooks from public libraries – just need to get Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software (free from Adobe site). Also it’s worth mentioning that if you walk in with any Nook to Barnes & Noble store, you’ll get tech support and you’re allowed to read ANY available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi where Nook eBook store has over 2 million of paid books and about the same number of free public domain books. Nook already has Cloud as your ebooks are stored in your online library as well as downloaded to your device. Nook SImpletouch actually has a hidden web browser – just press the virtual “Search” button at the bottom of your Nook’s screen and key a URL into the search bar when it comes up.

Your Questions About Buy A Kindle Book

-

Steven asks…

If you own a Kindle do you still buy books from the book store?

I am thinking about buying a kindle and wanted to know if you own the kindle by amazon, if you still go to a bookstore and buy books?

Ken answers:

I’ve a Kindle 2. It is so convenient to put all my books, notes, bookmarks, all centralized into one place, so I buy most of my books for the Kindle. Now every time I want to find something, I just need to get my Kindle without searching into piles of books.

I suggest you to read this review, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR9J54TZ1541OR%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Mary asks…

How do you buy a book for kindle?

Do you have to use a credit card or something???
I know for the nook you need a credit card to buy books on there.

Ken answers:

Yes, you’ll need a credit card to set up your amazon account.

It doesn’t necessarily have to charge to the credit card. You could use an Amazon Gift card to pay for it, but you’ll need a credit card if not, and one just to set up an account.

Lisa asks…

How do I buy a book for my Kindle using another account?

I tried to buy a book today using my dads account but his credit card is expired and I can’t buy books from his account for a while. How do I buy a book using my moms amazon account without losing any data on my kindle??

Ken answers:

Select the option to send it as a gift and then send it to the email address you use for your Kindle account.

Betty asks…

Would I be able to buy an Amazon Kindle book and view it on my computer?

If so, would it just be like a plain text file I’d be able to see or what? I want to buy e-books but I don’t want no Kindle, sorry Amazon…

Ken answers:

I’m sorry that you cannot. See here on what device can be used read Kindle books:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Ftagging%2Ftag%2Fkindle%2Fforum%3Fie%3DUTF8%26cdForum%3DFx1D7SY3BVSESG%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcd%255Fef%255Ftft%255Ftp%26cdThread%3DTxMCLYS5W9INPJ&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I never think I would ever get a Kindle too. However, after reading some reviews, I changed my mind and try it. Now I really love the device. So may be you can give yourself a chance to read one or two reviews. I’ve given my opinions for the Kindle here, in case you’re intereseted:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090714124933AAc4RBw

Hope it helps :)

Charles asks…

Kindle users: Can I buy a kindle book on Amazon in USD then transfer it to my UK based device?

….without DRM problems.

My book would be almost half price if I buy it in $. Thanks.

Ken answers:

I do have a kindle but i’m not sure on that one- i suppose it depends on the book, i have tried to order stuff from the USA but it wont let me, it says it the wrong region. I don’t know if it will be different for you? I would try it, if it doesn’t let you then it probably doesn’t!

Hope this helps you xxx

Your Questions About Kindle Where To Buy In Canada

-

Lizzie asks…

I decided to get a Kindle for Christmas but I have a few questions that need to be answered first like…?

Are you able to buy it in Canada? If yes then where?
If I went to America to buy it, where would I find it and how much would it cost?
Is the free 3G Wireless really…Free?
Thank you
Also! If I bought a book in the kindle store, where does the money go, and how do I pay?
Please answer
Thank you

Ken answers:

The Kindle is only available for pre-Christmas delivery in the US. Wait times vary between other countries where it is available for shipping from Amazon.com. Check BestBuy.com and in-store. In the US, Target and Staples also carry it so if those stores are in Canada, you could check there too. Bandwidth over 3G is free but many downloads have an additional charge in countries other than the US so I’d highly advise that you contact Kindle customer service and be sure you know what other fees there are. Be aware that the whole purpose for 3G is to download purchases so if you’re thinking this is a viable substitute for a smart phone or netbook, it’s not. The browser is slow and cumbersome. It does not display video or color. And even using web mail may be free now, but it might not always be. I have no idea what you’re asking about where the money goes. You pay for Amazon purchases with an Amazon gift card or valid debit/credit card.

Ken asks…

KINDLE USERS PLEASE ANSWER?

hey there :P thanks for answering my Q

so ive wanted a kindle since they came out :P i love reading and i read alot (3-4 books a week)
and i get so bored when i go to my grandmas for the summer and i have nothing to read cuz i cant bring all my books over :P

so my dad said i should get an ipad…but i think its kinda pointless if all im doing is reading :P

so how is the kindle…do you enjoy it?
what is the 3G wireles…do i have to pay for it ?
i live in canada so do i get the 3G wireless here?
whats the wireless for anyways?
is there any free modern books on the kindle (obviously not big name books…but like newer novels that no one reads :P )
how big are they? could i fit them in my pocket? would they snap in my pocket? or would i j ust have to hold it ? :S
can i read in the dark? or do i have to buy the lamp attatchment
how do i buy books ? do i have to make a kindle account?
is it like the ipod where i buy them on the computer then plug it in and update it?
do i have to use a credit card for each purchase? or can i put like 30 bucks on my account and then buy them whenever ?

lol thanks in advance…

also what accesories do you own for your kindle? and do you find them useful ?

Ken answers:

Kindles are great, i’ve had mine for a couple of months now and i’ve read 3 books on it and love it! I have to say its a great device to read on its exactly like reading a book, except its more compact and portable becuase you can take your whole library with you wherever you go (like you said you need). For you, if your main reason of getting one is to be able to read all your books on one thing then you should def get one becuase thats its best feature. Since its exactly like reading a book, im not sure if its worth 260$ just to have the same reading experience at home, but if you use it alot when traveling then it is definitely worth it. I have the leather amazon cover for mine and its very nice, i’d get one if you get a kindle.

No it wont fit i your pocket

yes you use a credit card to buy books but you have to have an amazon account, therefore you dont type in your card info every time yo buy a book

books download straight to your kindle, you dont need to sync it to a computer

3G wireless is free, you use it for buying books on the kindle store. Not sure if it will work in Canada

go to the amazon website and theyll have all the info you need

P.S. The iPad has an LDC screen, so after about 5 minutes of reading a book on it your eyes will start to hurt

Sandra asks…

e-reader-which is the best in Canada?

I have been looking at E-readers as a gift for my DIL for Christmas, but I’m a bit confused. Kindle fire is not available here nor are there any books for it, so that’s out. With Kobo vox you have to buy the books from them. I want one where you can download books from anywhere and that is a good deal for the money. I’ve not heard of others but there must be some. If you have one what kind and is it good or do you wish it had a feature you don’t have?

Ken answers:

The Kindle Fire will be available on November 15th,it is powerful
and the kobo vox and nook color are also good for choice, they are all cheap

Ruth asks…

What is the difference between these e-readers?

Kobo, Kindle, Nook. Which have you found best? Where do you buy the books? Which books cost the most (new/old per-system)? How many books fit into a system? Do some work better in other countries (i mean, if you live in canada, will an american e reader cost more to operate or make no difference?) Are these systems worthwhile in your mind or a fad? Will these be useful for university/college or not? As you can see, i have many questions; and any useful information you can provide would be appreciated.

Ken answers:

I think kindle is the best of the bunch personally as far as features & selection.
You can get a good deal on a kindle and browse the different models here:

http://www.syncpedia.com/goto/kindle_store

I would avoid the color nook since it has a backlit screen which can cause eyestrain from extended use (even if not now you should consider your long term eye health).
The monochrome nook screen is fine, but consider you can get the 3g kindle for the same price just about as a monochrome nook these days (which doesn’t have 3g) then I don’t see the point.

Barnes and noble claims to have the largest amount of ebooks, but in my real world tests, amazon had the most ebooks I actually wanted to buy.
The only real big factors for the nook are easier book sharing & some free ebook time in a barnes and noble store.. But to me those factors don’t offset everthing the kindle is offering.
If you want free 3g web browsing in edition to reading, the kindle is the only game in town since nook has discontinued 3g.

Personally I think this model kindle is the best value, since not only is it a great ebook reader with good selection, but for only $25 more the most basic kindle your getting unlimited web browsing everywhere:

http://www.syncpedia.com/goto/kindle_3g_special

If you don’t care about that – then you could consider the kobo reader, which is a fine basic reader with an fairly basic ebook selection, for less then the lowest price kindle:

http://www.syncpedia.com/goto/kobo_reader

I still think kindle is the best value overall, but if your budget is tight the kobo reader is not bad for the price.

Charles asks…

Different e-book readers?How do I get books?

so im thinking about getting an e-reader, and I had a few questions.Just so you know I’m in Canada, if some of the books were not available or if it was different?
1) I’ve heard of a few, the kobo, kindle, theres a Sony one out, and a sony touch one? and the aluratek?
– I want to know what the difference is between them? I don’t know if I want a touch one, it seems a bit unnecessary to me. I think I would like colour, but it’s not necessary either, but it would be nice. I would like to know how many books they hold, where I can buy books for that model, and if it has a back light. Also any other specifications about it that may be helpful. Also where can I buy them and how much are they?
-I know at least one of them comes with free books? Which one is that? And is there any way to find out which books they are?
2) I’m a bit confused about the whole book process. Where do you get the books, and how much do they cost? What websites do you buy them off of, and how do you do that? How do you get them onto the e book reader?
-Also, what is with these free books you can download? Where do you get them, and are they just bad books that people couldn’t get published, or “normal” books?
-One more here, can you get these books and borrow them, like a library? How do you do that? Does it cost money? How does it work?

Thanks a bunch, as you can see I’m a bit confused. So any other info is also welcomed!

The 1st 3 are e-ink (new technology that suppose to imitate a black & white book). I believe the 4th is an LCD. The kindle, you tied to Amazon bookstore for DRM material and you cannot buy books outside of Amazon since most retailer has a DRM scheme so you cannot make copies of the book so you won’t illegally distribute it. They are also using a proprietary scheme that makes you unable to check out library books if you’re fortunate enough that your local library offer that option. But most Kindle user feels that Amazon store is big enough that they really don’t need to shop elsewhere. Kobo is basic and I don’t know much about it. Borders is peddling it. You can shop in most retailer that offers ePub and check out library books. Sony Reader also e-ink. Sony is the only reader that have touchscreen. In fact to separate themselves from the mass, they concentrate on the touch technology, thus because it’s a new technology that Sony just managed to perfect in their brand new readers, the readers are little more expensive. Sony’s also read ePub and since you’re in Canada, you can use the Sony Reader Store to purchase books and a load of other retailers. You can also check out library books. I know a lot about the Sony Reader but it’s to much to write. So check out the Sony Reader forum for reviews and places to shop. You can go on Amazon to learn more about the Kindle and Borders to learn more about Kobo
